Why I wrote Oval Ways.

Reasons Behind It.
The main reason I wrote Oval Ways was to celebrate the renaissance of Caernarfon  Town Football Club and specifically the memorable 2012/13 season when the team won the Welsh Alliance League, FAW Trophy and Cookson Cup.

But that isn’t the whole story, as there are two other issues that nudged me into taking on the project.
Firstly, I had always wanted to try and raise funds to causes that needed support. Having totally self-financed the book, and designed it too, I did not have a third party to pay royalties to and therefore By paying a reputable company to print a run of the book I could then ensure that all profits from Oval Ways could be distributed evenly between my two chosen causes, these being  the club’s newly set up Football Academy, and Waunfawr Primary School.

Waunfawr Primary School, Mrs Gwenan Williams.
Sales of the book went well following the launch night in November 2014 and I am pleased to say that I have thus far been able to give both the Academy and Waunfawr Primary School a total of £500 each. I hope to be able to make further donations to them both in the future, but for now, I am very proud that the club, the supporters and I have been able to help these two worthwhile causes in a small way.
And finally, I also had a totally personal reason for writing Oval Ways. As a youngster I was a slow learner as far as reading went, and therefore quite far behind my classmates in this department. It was thanks to Mother's help that I managed to catch up and ever since those days of reading books at tea time with Mum, I have always had a book, comic or magazine to hand. I once told a teacher in secondary school that I wanted to become a writer but did not really pursue this as I never thought I had the talent to get my work published. The feedback I have received from people who have read Oval Ways has been very positive and although I still doubt my own writing talents I feel that I have put together a book that I can be proud of.
I also hope I've done the club proud.
Paul.
